Filter Housings

What Are Filter Housings?
Filter Housings are pressure vessels that you can insert cloth bags into to filter relatively small particles from fluids.  Typical applications for filter housings include filtering of paints, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, flood water, injection water, resins, solvents, inks, chemicals, adhesives and to protect spray nozzles.

Do I need a Filter Housing or Strainer?
As mentioned above, filter housings are used to remove relatively small particles from fluids, whereas strainers are used to remove larger particles.

Filter Housings:1/4 - 800 microns0.0000098 - 0.0313512 inches
Strainers:149 - 3189 microns0.0058392 - 0.125 inches

If you have a wide range of particle sizes, many of which are much larger than the level you want to filter to, then you should stage your filtration.  "Staged Filtration" refers to using a strainer to remove the larger particles and installing a filter housing downstream to remove the smallest particles.  This is much more efficient than using one large filter housing to achieve the same results.  At the very least you'll use fewer filter bags per year.

What types of Filter Housings are available?
We provide two distinct types of filter housings, either of which can be duplexed for applications in which the filter bags may have to be changed without having to interrupt the liquid flow.

The first type, what we refer to as the Model SL, represents a very traditional design that has been around for many years and is manufactured by several companies.  As such, it is one of the most popular filter housings that we offer.

Since nothing clamps the bag in-place, it is possible to receive a little bypass.  In order to reach the bag you have to stick your hand into the fluid or purchase bags with handles (additional cost).

Capable of filtering flow rates as high as 180 GPM, these housings contain woven wire mesh baskets for supporting the filter bags.  The basket design and seating arrangement eliminate the need for a gasket at the basket flange.  Using the filter bags in conjunction with the mesh baskets enables usage at differential pressures as high as 60-75 PSI.

The other filter housing design that we offer we call our Model "TL series".  These are a newer design filter housing that have a "goose neck" inlet.  The fluid actually travels through the cover and into the bag.  The bag is positively seated between the cover and housing, minimizing any chance of bypass.  Since the bag is located near the top of the housing, it is easy to grab without a handle.  TL Filter Housings tend to cost less and weigh less than the model SL design.

Capable of filtering flow rates as high as 180 GPM, these housings also contain woven wire mesh baskets for supporting the filter bags.  The basket design and seating arrangement eliminate the need for a gasket at the basket flange.

Filter housings can be duplexed and supplied with oversized or "undersized" connections as required.  At our website we're only listing the most common simplex filter housings, for epoxy coated or other special requirements you should contact our office via email or by phone/fax during the hours of 8am - 5pm EST.
