Cast Steel Simplex Strainers

Cast steel simplex basket strainers for 3/8" to 24" size pipelines

Simplex strainer design

We offer (7) different models of cast steel simplex basket strainers by three different manufacturers and the table below has links to each of their summary files (contains their catalog page, outline drawing and installation/operation manual).

To assist you with comparing the various models use our pressure drop calculator to determine the theoretical differential pressure with a clean strainer basket.  You will note that some models are capable of higher flow rates; another way to look at the pressure drop is that the lower the initial pressure drop, the longer it will take before the basket needs cleaning (assuming a consistent particle load).   We wrote an article called When Should I Clean my strainer basket? that you might find interesting.

The first step is to select your connection size, enter your flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM), select the desired filtering level and then input the specific gravity (Sg) and viscosity (SSU) if your fluid isn't water or similar to water.  The differential pressure calculator will automatically update with a comparison of all models showing their maximum rated flow rate (based upon a perforated basket), calculated differential pressure and the flow coefficient value (Cv).

For your flow rate it might come down to cost, availability and features.  For example, some basket strainers have bolted covers and others have quick-opening yoke style covers that do not require tools to access the strainer basket.  The Model 510 has a multi-basket design, thus it is easier to remove four smaller filled baskets than a single large one - however it is significantly more expensive and has a long lead time.

Call us at 908.362.9981 to speak with a sales engineer or send an email for a prompt reply to all of your questions.  We suggest using our strainer inquiry form to describe a new application because prompts you for all of the relevant design criteria required to select the model we feel is best suited for your application.  We typically reply within the hour; certainly be the next business day.  Feel free to call us and we will provide discounted pricing and factory stock status on the spot.
